Changing your menu

WordPress allows you to customize your website's menu, giving you the flexibility to organize and present your content in a user-friendly manner.

Step 1: Access the Menu Customizer

  1. Log in to Your WordPress Dashboard: Enter your admin username and password to access your WordPress Dashboard.

  2. Navigate to Appearance > Menus: In the left sidebar, hover over "Appearance" and then click on "Menus."

Step 2: Create a New Menu (Optional)

If you want to create a new menu:

  1. Click "Create a New Menu":

    • Under the "Edit Menus" tab, enter a name for your new menu.

    • Click the "Create Menu" button.

Step 3: Add Menu Items

  1. Select Pages or Custom Links:

    • Under the "Add menu items" section, you can add pages, posts, custom links, or other content to your menu.

    • Click the checkboxes next to the items you want to add, then click the "Add to Menu" button.

  2. Reorder Menu Items:

    • Drag and drop menu items to arrange them in the desired order.

    • Indent menu items to create submenus (dropdown menus).

  3. Edit Menu Items:

    • Click on a menu item to expand its options.

    • Modify the Navigation Label (text shown in the menu), add title attributes (tooltip text), or remove items.

  4. Custom Links:

    • To add custom links, enter the URL and link text in the "Custom Links" section.

    • Click "Add to Menu."

Step 4: Assign Menu to a Location

  1. Choose a Menu Location:

    • Scroll down to the "Menu Settings" section.

    • Select a menu location from the available options (e.g., Primary Menu, Footer Menu, etc.).

  2. Save Menu:

    • Click the "Save Menu" button to save your changes.

Step 5: Preview and Publish

  1. Preview Changes:

    • Visit your website to preview how the new menu looks.

    • You can return to the customizer to make additional changes if needed.

  2. Publish Changes:

    • If you're satisfied with the changes, click the "Publish" button to make the new menu live on your website.

Step 6: Modify Existing Menus

If you want to modify an existing menu:

  1. Select the Menu to Edit:

    • Under the "Edit Menus" tab, choose the menu you want to edit from the "Select a menu to edit" dropdown.

  2. Make Changes:

    • Follow the same steps as mentioned above to add, reorder, edit, or remove menu items.

  3. Save Menu:

    • After making changes, click the "Save Menu" button to save your modifications.

Changing the menu in WordPress is a straightforward process that allows you to present your website's content in a clear and organized manner. Experiment with different layouts and orders until you achieve the desired navigation structure for your website.
